Why are Road Angel Sat Nav's better than Garmin or TomTom?
Road Angel have been making dedicated speed camera detection devices for over 5 years. There are more that 100,000 users putting the Road Angel database through its paces everyday and a team of people responsible for the maintenance and update of this data. This data is not supplied to anyone else. Some third party data has been adopted by other satellite navigation manufacturers but this is not as comprehensive or actively maintained as well as the Road Angel database.
Furthermore Road Angel satellite navigation systems have a dedicated camera alert mode, just like a standard Road Angel Detector, so you can get full clear alerts to cameras in your area even when not using the navigation feature.
Mapping data for satellite navigation systems is supplied by third parties. The Navigator 6000 and Navigator 7000 use TeleAtlas maps as used by TomTom, and as such there is little difference between them in the navigation aspect. The main Road Angel Navigator uses NAVTEQ maps as used by the premium Garmin systems. |

Do Your Sat Nav's Have Laser Detection?
No they do not, sat nav system does and there are no plans for this in the future. There are several reasons for this. Laser detection is illegal to have in Europe and these units are designed for sale and use
across Europe so it is not built in.
Laser detection more often than not will only confirm that you have been hit however
since it's a narrow light beam that is only emitted when the police are
firing their gun at you. Since it works at the speed of light you will in most instances have been had before
you can react. Your only chance is getting some scatter if the car in front
is targeted from a distance. For more info see here:

Some places sell additional separate products to run alongside Road Angels but it should be noted that any sort of laser detection mounted down by the number plate is particularly
ineffective since its line of sight of the road ahead is blocked by other
cars in front of you and it would only see laser when its your time to be
hit - and just therefore confirm you have been caught.
Instead data is being compiled of the most
common mobile sites which are being added to the database thereby giving you some advanced warning
and you can also add your own alerts whenever you see a mobile van by
pressing the store button on your unit as you pass.

I have a heated windscreen, is this a problem?
No. Heated front windscreens like those on Fords and Jaguars are fine. These
windscreens have little metal elements in the glass but the unit can see
between them for both GPS reception and laser detection without any additional accessories being required.
Some cars however, mostly French made, actually have a heat REFLECTIVE
windscreen which has a metal coating all the way over the glass which is
designed to reflect the suns UV rays but also reflects satellite and radio
signals. Your windscreen would have a purple tint if it had this and it
would require you to mount a little antenna up behind the rear view mirror
for satellite reception where the windscreens are free of this coating. Laser detection is not effected.

Can They Be Updated via an Apple Mac?
Software for the Mac Platform for Road Angel Compact and Plus is currently being developed for launch in 2007.
For the Navigator 6000 and 7000 updates via a MAC require the use of a 3rd Party application called Missing
Sync. Road Angel have negotiated a discount on the purchase price of the

Is Road Angel a detector?
Road Angels* use GPS to check it's location against an onboard database of accident blackspots, Primary Schools, congestion charging zones and fixed camera locations. When you are approaching any of these, Road Angel provides a warning.
* New Road Angel & Road Angel Plus feature an integrated front and rear laser detector. Laser detection is an upgrade option on the Compact.

What are the main differences between the Road Angel 2 and Road Angel Plus?
There are 2 main differences between the Road Angel 2 and the Road Angel
Plus.
The Road Angel Plus has an inbuilt battery which lasts for 8 hours continual use or a
week on standy and gives you a wirefree setup saving cables from dangling
down your dashboard all the time, you get car power leads to run it off if
required and also a mains charger.
The Road Angel Plus also knows what the speed limit is at the fixed camera locations, so as
well as advising you of the camera location it will tell you that its a 40
or 50 limit for example. Useful if you are on unfamiliar roads.

How long is delivery & what is the cost?
For all orders place by 4pm we aim to despatch sameday whenever possible
for nextday delivery. Our standard method of dispatch is Royal Mail Special
Delivery which is free of charge. Occasionally due to industrial action
affecting consumer deliveries or our own stock supplies there may sometimes
be a small delay so please allow up to 72 hours for delivery. Accessories
are sent either first class or recorded post and so may take a few more days
to arrive at there destination. |
